Hello,
Last weekend our whole family went to a creation conference that was almost 4 hours away from our house. It was at Living Waters Bible Camp and the main speaker was Buddy Davis from Answers in Genesis he makes dinosaur sculptures, writes songs, is a taxidermist, has made some movies. He has also done some other things that are pretty cool. He has climbed to the top of a mountain looking for Noah's ark. :)
I was gone for some on the sessions on Saturday, I went with Pete and Daniel to different activities for the kids. First we panned for gold and a few of the other kids actually found little pieces of it. Right after that we went to a mock mine that they built. We hiked pretty far and up a steep hill for that. Later we hiked to the top of a REALLY steep hill and into the 'prairie' and learned about different kinds of prairie and we got to touch a bison skull and skin and a rattlesnake skin. Then we walked to the other side of the grass and went down the other side of the hill. Then in the afternoon we hiked pretty far to see a cave with real Indian hieroglyphics on the walls! That was really cool. Then after supper we hiked a little more and learned how to make maple syrup. We got to taste sap and then syrup. In all we probably hiked over 8 miles. And it was all either up steep hills or on the way down the hills it was hard to keep from sliding down.
For the sessions I was at Buddy Davis talked about many cool things. After one of the sessions we got to go pet a big snake that weighed about 15 pounds! It's skin was really rubbery.
The platypus has a tail like a beaver, spur like a rooster, lays eggs, feeds it's young milk, has a big bill like a duck! It is really cool.
In all there are only about 50 kinds of dinosaurs. They were land animals and vegetarians. Dinosaurs didn't evolve and if they did, or if anything did for that matter there should be fossils of partially evolved things but there aren't. What I thought was really cool was there are a bunch of fossilized things, even spiders that all look like they do in real life! :)
Buddy Davis showed a picture of something, just the outline, (I forgot exactly what it was of) and then he showed us the same pictured flipped upside down and backwards. It looked totally different.
He also showed us a bunch of different skeletons and how they look alike but are totally different in really life. Like the horse and the cow, their skeletons looked very similar but in really life, they are way different.
About Noah's ark, people usually think of a little cartoon picture with Noah and animals sticking out of this boat, that has a boat like part with a cabin thingy on top. But for real the ark was probably more shaped like a rectangle.
Some people think that it was impossible for two of each animal to fit on the ark. But it was really possible. You only would need two dogs, not two of each kind of dog. The same with cats and other animals. The dinosaurs, an egg is a lot smaller than the actual thing, and two of those could have easily fit on the ark!
On the way home from camp on Sunday we stopped at our friends bridal shower. She is from our old church, 4 churches ago, and so it was fun to see a lot of old friends!
Last night we went to our new 4-H club, it was definitely interesting. Next month we are going to go Christmas caroling at a nursing home and then have a Christmas party.
